Martina tells us her sweet secret
Driven from the excitement of trying new things and experimenting with glass, Martina makes wonderful pieces of glass art. And we are able to present you a tutorial from one of her pieces:
Martina’s “Thuringian Forest Glass”-hearts
For these frit-hearts you need
- Thuringian Forest Glass by Lauscha (“Waldglas”)
- a thin rod of clear (2-3mm)
- Vertomagic frit
- if available, a lentil-press or tab-press or a tool for flattening
- a paddle
Tutorial
- Make a forestglass-bead and roll it in your favourite frit blend.
- Melt the frit in.
- Flatten the bead in a (tab or lentil-)press or with a tool.
- Heat the bead well – woodglass is tougher than most glass – and then shape the glass like a cone with your paddle.
- Form the proportions of a heart.
- Heat one spot and twist that spot with a thin rod. Put a drop of clear in the middle and then put the heart into the kiln or whatever you use to cool the glass.
